Sacher Torte is one of the world’s most famous cakes and its popularity may lie in its simplicity.

Certainly, there are no multi layers, complicated components, or even difficult recipes.

The Sacher Torte remains a classic and we love reinventing and celebrating the classics here at B&P.

There are a few versions of the story of it's conception but the Original Sacher-Torte, is the consequence of a few sliding doors moments.

The first was in 1832, when the Austrian Chancellor, Prince Klemens Wenzel von Metternich, instructed his kitchen staff to create an extraordinary dessert to impress his special dinner guests. Now, as per legend the chef fell ill that evening, leaving the apprentice chef, 16-year-old Franz Sacher, to create history. Metternich’s parting words to the talented teenager: “I hope you won’t disgrace me tonight.”

Chef Sacher seized the moment and conjured up the confection of a lifetime, the chocolate cake that would go down in history as one of the most famous; the Original Sacher-Torte.

The cake was a hit and soon gained a cult following, it was deemed “presentable at court”. From then on, it was a favourite at the imperial court and soon went on to win the hearts (and palates) of the world.
